Google Pixel 9a review
A year old, widely sold renewed, and still a better camera than most phones at the price.

The verdict
The 9a is the value play in the Pixel line: bought renewed it lands well under $350, and owners report it arriving in near-new condition with a camera that still outperforms phones costing more. Buy it if the newest model's price is the only thing stopping you.

What it is
Last year's mid-range Pixel, now mostly sold renewed, and one of the better-value phones in the listings as a result. Owners report paying under $350 and, in one case, describing the phone as running smoothly enough that it is easy to forget what it cost.
Buying renewed: what owners actually receive
Consistent across reports. The phone arrives in a plain white box with a USB cable and no charger. Condition is described as near pristine, in one case with the battery still at full capacity, and one seller included a fast charger and cable as a bonus.
Set expectations accordingly: budget for a charger, and check the specific seller's rating before ordering. Renewed is a grading, not a guarantee, and the experience depends on who fulfils it.
The camera still holds up
This is the reason the 9a remains worth buying. Owners in 2026 describe the camera as still genuinely good and, in one direct comparison, better than a lot of Samsung phones. Like the 10a it has no camera bump on the back.
Performance and carriers
Owners coming from a OnePlus 9 report it as faster with better battery life. First-time Pixel buyers describe the transition as easy.
Carrier compatibility is well documented by owners: Mint Mobile and US Mobile's T-Mobile-network plans both work without trouble, which matters because MVNO buyers are a large share of this phone's audience.
A conflict in the listings
The two listings for this model disagree about the chipset: one specifies Tensor G3, the other Tensor G4. They cannot both be right, and the correct answer is Tensor G4 — the same chip as the Pixel 9, which is the whole point of the a-series. Any listing claiming G3 is describing the previous generation.
Who it competes with
Against the Pixel 10a you give up the newest chip, the brightest screen and some of the remaining update window, and you save a meaningful amount of money. That is the whole decision. Against a new budget phone at the same price — a Galaxy A17 or a Moto G — you get a dramatically better camera and a far better chip for the same outlay.
