Motorola Edge 2025 review

Flagship durability ratings and 68W charging at a mid-range price.

The Edge 2025 in Pantone Deep Forest, front and back together

The verdict

The Edge 2025 is Motorola doing what it does best: assembling a phone that feels expensive out of parts that are not. IP68 and IP69, MIL-STD-810H, Gorilla Glass 7i and a 5200 mAh battery that takes a day's charge in six minutes — the compromises are the camera at full zoom and a short update window.

Buy it if

  • You want genuine durability ratings rather than a vague promise of toughness
  • You charge in short bursts and want a day's power in minutes
  • You want a big, sharp, quad-curved display without flagship pricing
  • You are on any US carrier — it is universally unlocked

Skip it if

  • You need a microSD slot or a headphone jack
  • You zoom in a lot — detail falls apart at the long end
  • You plan to keep the phone through many Android releases

What it is

A mid-range Motorola with a durability specification that mid-range phones do not normally get. IP68 covers immersion to 1.5 metres for half an hour; IP69 adds resistance to high-temperature water jets. On top of that sit MIL-STD-810H testing and Gorilla Glass 7i.

For context, that is a stronger water and dust specification than the Razr line, which is rated IP48 and is explicitly not dust proof.

Charging is the standout number

68W TurboPower, and Motorola's claim is specific rather than vague: six minutes of charging for up to twelve hours of use, with the 5200 mAh battery substantially depleted and charge boost enabled.

That changes daily behaviour more than a bigger battery would. You stop planning charges and start topping up while you find your keys. The charger is sold separately, which is the usual irritation.

Camera

Four cameras with a 50 MP main sensor and Motorola's AI processing. Owners of the Edge line consistently describe photos as sharp and pleasant at normal framing and noticeably digital and smeared when zoomed all the way in.

Motorola's cameras are a genuine strength at this price without being flagship equals. If you want the best camera near this money, look at the Pixel a-series instead.

What is missing

The Edge line drops the microSD slot and the headphone jack that the Moto G Stylus keeps. With 256 GB built in, most people will not miss the card; the headphone jack is a real loss if you use wired earphones.

Software support is the other limit. Motorola's own support channel puts this phone at three years of security updates from its June 2025 launch, and the Edge line typically gets two to three Android upgrades. Read Motorola's marketing carefully here: its published commitments for the same phone differ between regions and between pages, and its wording of "three years of updates" has been documented to mean two OS upgrades rather than three. Check the support tool for your region rather than the product page.

A note on the owner reports

Most of the owner feedback circulating for this phone is about the Motorola Edge 2024 rather than the 2025 — reviewers name the model themselves. Nothing on this page is presented as first-hand experience of the 2025 model unless it is explicitly about it. Where we describe how Motorola's cameras or software behave, that is the Edge line in general, and we say so.

Who it competes with

Against the Moto G Stylus 5G you give up the stylus, the headphone jack and the memory card slot, and you gain speed, a much better durability rating and far faster charging. Owners who have used both side by side report the Edge simply feels snappier and more polished in daily use.

Against the Pixel 10a you give up camera quality and years of updates, and gain durability and charging speed.
