Motorola Razr 2025 review

The cheapest way into a modern folding phone, and the one most people should buy.

The verdict

The base Razr 2025 does the important parts of the folding-phone job — pocketable, bright screen, a day and a half of battery, almost no bloatware — and asks you to give up only raw processing speed for it. For most buyers that is the right trade.

Buy it if

  • You want a phone that disappears into a pocket or a small bag
  • You are on any US carrier — it is universally unlocked
  • You want long battery life more than benchmark scores
  • You want a clean Android install without a vendor app store bolted on

Skip it if

  • You want the fastest chip in a flip — that is the Ultra
  • You need dust protection; the hinge and body are not rated for it
  • You want a telephoto lens
  • You expect the cover display to replace the main screen entirely

What it is

The entry point to Motorola's 2025 flip line. It shares the 6.9-inch main display and the titanium hinge plate with the more expensive models, and steps down to a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 and 8 GB of memory.

The practical result is a phone that feels the same in the hand and in the pocket as its more expensive siblings, and is slower only in ways most people will not notice.

What owners actually praise

Three things come up repeatedly and none of them are the chip. The display is bright and clear. There is very little preinstalled software to remove. Battery life is strong enough that owners describe it as one of the best phones they have bought.

The fingerprint reader draws specific praise from people switching off Samsung, as does Wi-Fi and Bluetooth reliability including hotspot tethering. The crease is invisible in normal use — several owners say they cannot find where the screen folds.

The cover screen is smaller here

3.6 inches at 1056 x 1066, against the taller 1272 x 1080 panels on the Plus and Ultra. It runs apps, but the experience is less complete, and at least one owner reports being unimpressed with how much it actually does for them.

If running your daily apps with the phone shut is the reason you want a flip, spend the extra on the Plus or Ultra. If the cover screen is for glancing at notifications and answering calls, this one is fine.

Expect a week of restarts

A quirk worth setting expectations on: new units arrive several system updates behind and install them in sequence, restarting between each. Owners report this taking a few days and then stopping entirely.

It is not a fault, but it looks like one, and it is the most common early complaint about this phone.

Battery and charging

4500 mAh with 30W TurboPower, rated at over a day and a night. That is a larger battery than the Plus carries, at slower charging speed — a fair swap, and one that suits the kind of buyer this model is aimed at.

What the photos show

Two things are worth looking at closely in the gallery above.\n\nThe first is the hinge edge. Closed, the phone is thicker than a slab but far shorter, which is the whole point — it goes into a pocket that a 6.9-inch phone does not.\n\nThe second is the half-folded position. Standing the phone at an angle turns it into its own tripod, which is how most owners end up using the camera for group shots and video calls.

Who it competes with

Against the Razr+ 2025 you give up the Snapdragon chip and the larger cover display. Against the Razr 2024 you gain a bigger battery and a newer Android release, and give up the vegan leather back that 2024 owners keep praising. Against a slab at the same price you get less camera and less speed, and a phone that folds.
